3 Easy Steps to Find Peace and Feel Better Today
We begin every session in my office with a version of this exercise…
STOP
First, I want to stop you where you are.
Just, stop.
Stopping can look like sitting down. Or lying down. It could be placing your hands on your body.
So sit back or lie down.
Your brain will offer you a million reasons not to try this... It may tell you that you’re being unproductive, or that this is overly simple. I encourage you to claim this moment for yourself anyway.
2. LOOK
Look inside.
Check in with your body and breath.
How easy or hard is it to breathe right now?
No need to judge or change a thing about your breathing. This is simply valuable information for you…
How easy or hard is it to breathe?
Your answer might sound like, “Huh, it’s kinda tough to breathe right now.”
Ok, great! You’ve just brought your prefrontal cortex, the most evolved part of your brain online by observing your breath. By breathing, you’ve also massaged your organs, moved your lymph, and supported cellular metabolism. Simple, and huge!
3. LAND
Land into your bones.
Your body LOVES imagination and metaphor, and responds accordingly across its many levels and systems. So…
Settle back into your bones. Do a trust fall all the way back into your body. Let your bones have you. And breathe into your strong, stable, alive bones.
Imagine your bones lighting up one-by-one like lanterns coming on in the dark.
Rest into the quietude in your bones.
Welcome your inner stillness to expand.
Bone energy accesses your core connection and your core potential. Bone energy is deep, stable, living, clear, and quiet.
Stay with yourself for a minimum of two minutes while you are learning. (Later you’ll be able to tap into your bone energy while are you moving around in life.)
After two minutes or more, Check in again with your body and breath.
I guarantee something will have shifted.
If you don’t know what’s changed, ask “If I did know what’s shifted, what would that shift be?” Also, it’s ok to just feel it, or know it.
When you’re ready, Stand Up on Your Bones. Take your Bones for a Walk.
GOING FORWARD—This is a skill to learn and practice. A feeling of stress or fatigue is your cue. It’s your cue to SLL:
1. Stop—
2. Look inside—
3. Land into your bones.
The results of this practice are cumulative. Every time you play with this, you’ll be creating a potent new pathway in your system that supports you instantly and lets your body heal itself.
