The following are normal and healthy responses as your child integrates the session…

Changes in your child’s sleep. They may be extra sleepy, or more restless than usual. Some parents report their children have their “best night ever!” following the session. Other times they have their “worst night ever!” It’s fine to wake up a sleepy baby to nurse them, and to reassure and comfort your child in the night if needed.

Old symptoms may crop up or be amplified. This is temporary, and doesn’t always happen. If it does, just know your child is continuing to process the session, that their brain is finding and recalibrating old patterns.

Your child is extra emotional, or unusually calm. You may notice they are especially silly, cranky, loving, needy, whiney, or mellow. If your child is having an emotional response, allow them to feel the emotion, without judging it. Witness and support your child, letting him know that you love him, that you are here with him, and that the feeling is 100% o.k. Let him know his body is doing a great job healing and processing the session.

You may notice the session evoked a response in you as well. Especially with our children, we are energetically and emotionally connected. As your child integrates past tension and experiences this can stimulate your own process. Support yourself with self-reflection, talking with a friend or therapist, connecting with your family, or getting any space or nurturing you may need. Receiving your own session will be extremely helpful for you, and for your child as well.
